How to Send a Letter to Someone at Yellowstone County Detention (the Texas P.O. Box and scanning rules)

Yellowstone County Detention does not accept personal (non-legal) inmate mail directly. Instead, personal mail is handled by a third-party vendor that scans your letter and delivers it electronically to the person in custody.

You'll address your envelope to the vendor's P.O. Box - not the jail itself. Include the inmate's name and jacket number on the envelope, and use this address: Inmate Name, Inmate Jacket Number, Yellowstone Co. Detention Facility, P.O. Box 591, Long View, Texas 75606.

Personal letters are limited to 5 pages. Anything beyond that won't be scanned or delivered.

Write on the front of each page only. The scanner doesn't capture the back, so anything written there won't make it through.

Stick to standard paper. The maximum letter size accepted for scanning is 8.5 x 11 inches.

• ✓ Write the inmate’s full name and jacket number on the envelope

• ✓ Only send items you’re okay with being destroyed after scanning (originals are not returned)

• ✓ Keep the letter to 5 pages or less (pages over the limit won’t be scanned)
• ✓ Write on the front side only (backs won’t scan)
• ✓ Use paper no larger than 8.5 x 11 inches
• ✓ Include no more than 1 photo per letter

This scanning process handles personal mail only. Legal mail, medical mail, books, magazines, and packages won't be accepted through the P.O. Box - those need to go through different channels.
