How Phone Calls Work at York CI: Lists, Time Limits, and Getting Approved
Phone rules can feel confusing, especially when you're trying to reach someone fast. Here's how calls work at York CI—from getting on the approved list to what happens once calls begin.
York CI doesn't allow incoming calls. All calls are outgoing - placed by the person inside, either as collect calls or through Securus billing. You can't call the facility and ask them to put your loved one on the phone. The call has to come from them, using the approved phone system.
Before calls can happen, the person at York CI needs to set up a calling list with up to 10 phone numbers. They handle this early - usually during orientation in the first few business days after admission. That's when they meet with a Correctional Counselor to set up communication lists, including phone contacts.
- Have the inmate submit the phone numbers - the calling list is started by the inmate, and it can include up to 10 numbers.
- Wait for facility review - the facility reviews the submitted numbers to make sure none of them are restricted.
- Use the numbers once approved - after approval, calls can be placed to the phone numbers on the list.
Once your number is approved, calls can last up to 15 minutes. Access isn't unlimited, though. When someone can place calls depends on the facility's daily schedule, so call windows shift based on what's happening inside.
Note: Available call times are dictated by the facility schedule, so the exact hours and access at York CI can vary based on how the facility is running.
Sometimes the facility authorizes a courtesy call for someone newly incarcerated. This isn't automatic - it requires warden approval. If you're waiting to hear from someone right after they're admitted, expect some delay before regular calling access kicks in.
