What to Expect During Your First Visit at York Correctional Institution

Arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled time. That buffer lets you check in and get through processing without rushing.

Warning: Show up late and your visit may be shortened or canceled entirely. The schedule is strict.

Bring valid photo identification. Staff will check your ID before you’re allowed to enter York Correctional Institution, and you won’t be admitted without it.

York allows a maximum of two visitors per visit - children included. If you're planning to come as a group, coordinate beforehand so you don't show up with more people than the facility permits.

Children can visit, but only when accompanied by an adult on the inmate's approved visitor list. That adult must supervise them throughout the entire visit.

Visits are currently capped at 30 minutes (until further notice). The facility uses the shorter slots to allow time for disinfecting between visits, so come ready to make the most of your time together.

For authorized contact visits, physical touch is limited. A brief embrace and kiss are allowed at the start and end of your visit - nothing more.

Non-contact visits are recorded. Expect your conversation to be monitored and saved - it's standard procedure.

Even if you're ready to visit, the person you're seeing may not be eligible that day. Anyone on quarantine status can't have social visits until the Health Services Unit clears them.

You'll also need to be on the inmate's approved visiting list before you can get in. And even after approval, visits only happen if the inmate still has active visiting privileges.
