Picking Up Property and Dropping Off Court Clothes at York County Prison

Once someone is released from York County Prison, their belongings fall into two categories: valuable property and everything else. Valuable items - jewelry, a driver's license or ID, birth certificate, Social Security card, or cell phone - must be picked up within 6 months.

Other personal property has a much tighter deadline. Clothing, shoes, and similar items must be picked up within 10 days after release. Miss that window, and the prison can dispose of them.

Reminder: Don’t wait. Valuable items have a 6-month pickup window, but clothing and other personal property must be picked up within 10 days - after that, the prison may dispose of what’s left.

Court clothes are accepted Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Show up outside those hours, and your items likely won't be accepted.

The prison generally doesn't allow you to drop off property. Two exceptions: medically necessary items and clothing for court appearances. Anything else will be turned away.

  • Drop off court clothes Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–3:00 PM
  • Don’t bring other personal property unless it’s medically necessary or for a court appearance
  • Verify timing before you go so you don’t make a wasted trip

Miss the pickup deadline, and property may be disposed of - especially clothing and other non-valuables after the 10-day window. If you already know you won't make it in time, contact the Prison Business Office as soon as possible to ask about your options.

Tip: Can't meet the 10-day or 6-month deadline? Contact the Prison Business Office right away to ask about possible arrangements.
