Sending Legal Mail to York County Prison: Free Legal Email and the 75-Page Limit
Need to send legal correspondence to someone at York County Prison? You have two official options: standard legal mail by post or the facility's free legal email service (which requires advance verification).
York County Prison accepts legal correspondence through two channels: standard mail and a free legal email service. The email option is available to attorneys, legal representatives, and court officials. For mailed documents, send standard legal mail to 3400 Concord Road, York, PA 17402. Want to use email instead? You'll need to complete the facility's verification process first - your email address must be added to the legal mail group before you can send anything.
- Gather your verification documents - you’ll need a copy of your Bar card or G-28 and a photo ID.
- Include the email address you’ll be sending from - provide the attorney/legal representative email address you want added to the legal mail group.
- Email Prison Records to request verification - send the Bar card or G-28, photo ID, and your email address to Prison Records so you can be verified in advance and added to the email list.
Note: Verification comes first. Until Prison Records adds your email address to the legal mail group, the free legal email service won't work.
York County Prison limits incoming legal or special correspondence to 75 pages or less. Send more than that, and the prison returns it to you with a notice explaining why - the inmate gets notified too. Need to send something longer? You'll have to obtain an appropriate court order for the prison to accept and process it.
Reminder: Planning to send more than 75 pages? Get an appropriate court order, or the mailing will be returned.
Here's how emailed legal correspondence gets handled: mailroom clerks open the emails and print them while the inmate is present. The inmate signs for delivery and receives a receipt showing the sender and documents received. Those receipts are kept on file. The original emails are then deleted from the server.
