Prepare for in-person visits: approvals, limits, and health holds
For in-person visits at Connecticut DOC, you must be on the incarcerated person's approved visiting list before you can visit. Planning a trip? Confirm the current rules for that specific facility before you leave home so you don't get turned away at the door.
Warning: If your loved one is on any quarantine status, they cannot participate in social visits until cleared by the Health Services Unit.
Connecticut DOC also limits the number of people who can visit in person at one time: no more than two visitors per visit, and that count includes children. If you have more family coming, plan for separate visits rather than assuming everyone can enter together.
Common Questions
Q
Are video visits free and do I need an email address?
Yes, Connecticut DOC video visits are free, and you need a valid email address to schedule. Your visit is not scheduled until the facility sends a confirmation, so check your inbox (and junk mail) for that message.
Q
How many people can join a video visit, and do children count toward the limit?
For video visits, Connecticut DOC allows up to three authorized adult visitors, and youth who are domiciled in the household do not count toward that adult limit. For in-person visits, no more than two visitors are allowed per visit, and that count includes children.
