Visitation: how to become an approved visitor and schedule a visit
- Complete the Visitation Request Form. Fill it out and submit the completed form to the facility where your loved one is incarcerated.
- Wait for approval. You generally need to be approved before you can visit.
- Request a scheduled visit if required. GDC instructs visitors to submit a request through its online visit request form when scheduling is needed.
Once you're approved, the schedule comes down to the specific facility and sometimes the custody status. Rogers State Prison, for example, lists general population visitation on Saturdays, Sundays, and state holidays from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Protective custody visitation runs from 8:00 AM to 9:00 AM on those same days. Whitworth Women's Facility shows how detailed it can get: 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM hours with alternating visitation days by last name ranges (Saturday M to Z, Sunday A to L), plus state holidays.
Tip: If the facility uses alternating days or special holiday rules, confirm the current schedule before you leave home so you do not arrive on the wrong day.
