Sending money to an inmate: trust accounts, limits, and setup
- Make sure you’re an approved visitor. Hawaii limits trust-fund electronic deposits through ConnectNetwork to approved visitors.
- Create a ConnectNetwork account and add the facility and inmate. ConnectNetwork allows friends and family to set up an account and deposit to an inmate trust fund using a credit or debit card (as long as you’re approved).
- Keep the monthly cap in mind. Electronic deposit amounts are limited to $300 per inmate, per month, and fees may apply.
- Plan for the processing window. Deposits and payments made through ConnectNetwork are transmitted to the facility within 1 to 2 business days (availability is still subject to PSD policies).
- Use the official setup help line if you need it. Friends and family can set up a ConnectNetwork account by phone at 1-877-650-4249 (or online).
Tip: Some deposits may be subject to court-ordered restitution and CVCC fines, so if you’re trying to help with commissary, ask your loved one how their account is being applied before you send money.
Common Questions
Q
Can I deposit money into an inmate account if I am not an approved visitor?
No. Hawaii’s policy for GTL/ViaPath ConnectNetwork electronic deposits states the depositor must be an approved visitor to deposit money into an inmate’s trust fund account.
Q
How long does it take for an online deposit to be available in the inmate's account?
ConnectNetwork deposits and payments are transmitted to the facility within 1 to 2 business days. Availability of funds is subject to PSD policies, so timing can still depend on how the facility posts funds to the account.
Q
Are there monthly limits on electronic deposits to an inmate's trust fund?
Yes. Hawaii’s policy caps trust-fund electronic deposits at $300 per inmate per month, and fees may apply. Deposits may also be subject to restitution and related fines depending on the person’s case.
