What to bring and rules you must follow for in-person visits

At Iowa county jails, expect a background check and courthouse-style screening before you reach the visiting area. Scott County requires visitors to pass a National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and criminal history check before scheduling a visit. These background checks are valid for one year. You'll also need a valid government-issued photo ID and proof of your Social Security number. If you've been incarcerated within the past 60 days, visitation will be denied until that period has passed.

  • Valid government-issued photo ID (bring the original)
  • Proof of your Social Security number (as required by the facility)
  • Leave your cell phone behind when visiting at the Scott County Courthouse, cell phones are prohibited in the courthouse and visitation area
  • Plan for security screening to enter the area where visitation is located
  • Use the free lockers provided to the public at the Scott County Courthouse, if you need a place to secure prohibited items
  • For Iowa DOC prison visits, make sure you are approved first: every adult must submit their own printed, signed visitor application (electronic applications are not accepted)
