Facility rules, security checks, and arriving in person

Expect a real security screening when you arrive. Massachusetts DOC uses passive drug-detecting dogs as part of entrance procedures for anyone entering secure correctional facilities. Everyone is subject to a drug-detection dog search, including visitors.

If you are coming for property pickup or dropping off items, do not assume you can walk in without planning. Middlesex Sheriff's Office requires property pick-up and clothing exchanges by appointment only Monday through Friday with 24-hours notice. Call 978-932-3153 to schedule. Worcester County Sheriff's Office allows property pickup Monday to Friday between 8:00am and 5:00pm but asks people to call the Property Room at 508.854.1800 EXT. 2426 before coming. Worcester also lists a court-clothing drop-off window Monday to Friday (excluding holidays) between 10:00AM and 2:00PM at the appropriate Control Booth.

Tip: If you are taking public transit, check the MBTA line page for PDF schedules and maps, fare information, and posted service announcements. This helps you avoid surprises from service changes on the day you travel.
