How to call, text, and set up video visits

  1. Confirm you’re approved to visit. SCDC virtual visits are for people on the inmate’s approved visitation list.
  2. Create the required account. Set up your account through the GTL VisitMe site used by SCDC.
  3. Schedule in the allowed window. SCDC’s virtual visit FAQ states visits must be scheduled at least three days in advance and no more than seven days in advance.
  4. Plan for the cost. SCDC’s virtual visit FAQ lists a flat rate of $10 for a 50-minute virtual visit.

County detention centers may use different vendors and rules. Laurens County Detention Center, for example, offers both onsite and offsite video visitation through Combine Public Communication (you can also use the "Inmate Sales" app). Visits there must be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance, and all visits are monitored and recorded. At Horry County's J. Reuben Long Detention Center, the messaging system runs through NCIC. Pricing there is $0.25 per message for letters and $0.35 per picture for picture/document messages.

Common Questions

Q
How do I schedule a virtual visit with a South Carolina DOC inmate?

If you’re on the inmate’s approved visitation list, SCDC’s virtual visit FAQ says you start by setting up an account on the GTL VisitMe site used by SCDC. The same FAQ says virtual visits must be scheduled at least three days in advance and no more than seven days in advance. It also lists a flat rate of $10 for a 50-minute virtual visit.

Q
Are visits monitored or recorded in South Carolina facilities?

Some facilities explicitly state that visits are monitored and recorded. For example, Laurens County Detention Center states all visits will be monitored and recorded, and it also lists visitation hours as 8:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
