Preparing for a visit, in-person or video: documents and rules to follow

  1. Check the visit type and limits. Some facilities use short on-site slots (Cache County Jail describes 20-minute on-site visits) and some limit how many people can enter the visiting area at once (Weber County Jail limits it to three visitors per inmate).
  2. Schedule ahead if the facility requires it. Weber County Jail says video visits must be scheduled at least one day in advance and can be scheduled in the lobby or online through Securus.
  3. Bring what your facility requires for your situation. If you are visiting as clergy at Cache County Jail, they state you must bring proof of clergy and be the head of your congregation.
  4. Keep the right contact handy for questions. For Utah State Correctional Facility, UDC publishes a scheduling email for the quickest response, an email for visiting application questions, and a phone number.

If your facility uses video visitation, pay attention to account rules. Duchesne County Jail discontinued regular in-person visits when it implemented video visitation (exceptions must be approved by the Jail Captain). Each visitor must use their own account. Third-party calling or connecting is prohibited.

If your visitation access gets restricted, take it seriously. Duchesne County Jail states that failing to follow visitation rules can result in temporary or permanent suspension, and publishes an appeals address where you can appeal to the Jail Commander. For day-to-day scheduling questions at USCF, use the contacts published by the Utah Department of Corrections so your question reaches the right visiting staff.

Common Questions

Q
How do I block incoming calls from an inmate?

Cache County Jail states you can place a block by speaking with a member of jail administration at (435) 755-1000. If you still want controlled contact, Cache also describes setting up an account through NCIC to fund phone calls.

Q
Where should I send a money order for a county jail inmate?

Use the exact mailing address and payee the jail publishes. For example, Duchesne County Jail says money orders should be mailed to PO Box 10 in Duchesne, UT 84021 and made payable to the Duchesne County Jail. Other jails may use kiosks or online deposits instead (Weber County Jail describes a lobby kiosk and online deposits, and notes processing fees apply).

Q
My facility page says video visits only. Can I request an in-person visit?

Some facilities have moved away from regular in-person visits, but exceptions may be possible. Duchesne County Jail says regular in-person visits have been discontinued and that any in-person visit must be approved by the Jail Captain. They also state that visitation is meant to provide a safe atmosphere while supporting positive goals, and that violating visitation rules can lead to temporary or permanent suspension.

Q
How do I schedule a visit at the Utah State Correctional Facility?

UDC says the quickest way to schedule is by emailing uspscheduleavisit@utah.gov, and it also publishes a USCF phone number (801-522-7046). For visiting application questions, UDC lists uspvisiting@utah.gov. If you are driving to USCF for your visit, UDC also publishes directions from I-80 using the 7200 West exit and continuing to 8000 West.
