Visitation rules, scheduling, and professional visit procedures

1. Schedule the visit online. Manitowoc County states all visits, remote or on-site, are prescheduled online.
2. Pick the type of visit. Manitowoc lists on-site jail lobby visits as free at set times (Tuesday and Thursday 6 to 8 pm; Saturday and Sunday 10 am to 8 pm).
3. Plan for remote visit requirements. Manitowoc lists remote visits from home as available seven days a week from 10 am to 8 pm and notes that data fees apply.

For Wisconsin DOC, visit rules are published by each institution. Oshkosh Correctional Institution's visitor guide (as one example) states that persons in DOC care are allowed up to three in-person visits per week. In-person contact visit days and times are Monday through Friday and Sunday and holidays, with general visiting hours from 10:45 AM to 8:00 PM and a daily closure from 6:00 PM to 6:30 PM. Visitor limits can be strict: Oshkosh allows a maximum of three adults per visit and six total visitors including children. If a visit includes children, at least one visitor must be an adult.

Professional visits follow their own rules and typically require credentials. Walworth County Jail states that professional visitation for legal counsel and related professionals (plus other approved professional visitors) may be allowed daily from 7:00 am to 4:30 pm. Professional visitors must have picture identification and professional status identification (for example, a bar card for an attorney). Clergy must be pre-approved by jail administration, and everyone entering professional visitation areas is subject to search of their person and property. If the professional visitor is also a relative of the inmate, Walworth notes they may need additional approval from jail administration to ensure the time is used for professional matters rather than personal visiting.
