Mail, photos, and legal mail rules
For WDOC facilities, mail basics start with identification. Include the inmate's name, inmate number, and the facility address. WDOC also publishes an "Overview of Inmate Mail Regulations Affecting Family and Friends" alongside visiting and mail-related forms. This document helps you understand what's allowed and what will be rejected.
County jail mail rules can be more complex than people expect. Some facilities have separate addresses for personal mail versus legal mail, and many now use mail scanning. Converse County Detention Center states that beginning August 11, 2025, all inmate mail must be sent to PO BOX 591, Longview, Texas 75606 with the inmate name and inmate number included. Legal mail should still go directly to Converse County Detention Center at 1201 Mesa Drive, Suite C, Douglas, WY 82633. Once mail is received for processing, it gets scanned at a central location and sent to the inmate electronically through the messaging system for viewing on inmate tablets.
