What to Expect on Your First Visit to Farmington Correctional Center (FCC)
Your first prison visit can feel overwhelming—especially when you're worried about being turned away at the door. Here's what to expect at Farmington Correctional Center (FCC) so you can arrive prepared and focus on what matters: the visit itself.
Farmington Correctional Center (FCC) is located at 1012 West Columbia Street, Farmington, MO 63640.
Visiting sessions run Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, with two windows: 9:30am–1:30pm and 2:30pm–6:30pm. Time your arrival carefully. You can't pull into the parking lot more than 30 minutes before the session starts, and entry is first-come, first-served. One more thing: no one can wait in your car on facility grounds during your visit - that includes passengers and pets.
Before making the drive, confirm you're approved to visit. Missouri DOC requires all visitors to complete the visiting application process and receive approval beforehand.
Once approved, you'll check in with photo ID when you arrive. Bring something valid - a current driver's license or Department of Revenue ID card works.
What ID to Bring
- ✓ Valid photo ID (current driver’s license)
- ✓ Valid photo ID (Department of Revenue ID card)
- ✓ Current school photo ID that includes their name
- ✓ Valid federal or state government-issued ID card
Bringing someone under 18? Plan ahead. Minors (unless married to the offender) must be accompanied by an authorized adult visitor. Kids need to stay with an adult at all times during the visit.
Dress code trips up more visitors than you'd expect. Skip anything tight, excessively baggy, see-through, or revealing. Stick to simple, well-fitting clothes that provide solid coverage.
- ✓ Clothing with gang, racial, inappropriate, or inflammatory language or symbols
- ✓ Camouflage design
- ✓ Skirts, dresses, and shorts shorter than the top of the kneecap when standing
- ✓ Wrap-around or slit skirts or dresses
- ✓ Holes or slits in pants
- ✓ Shirts, blouses, or tops that don’t cover the chest, cleavage, back, and stomach, or that don’t have sleeves that cover the shoulders
- ✓ Headwear (not allowed unless for verified religious purposes; subject to search)
Heads up: Undergarments with wire or metal supports can trigger metal detectors. Consider wearing alternatives.
Expect airport-style screening at the entrance. FCC uses full-body scanners for all visitors entering the facility.
If you're 18 or older, you may need to go through the full-body scanner. Exceptions exist for verified medical conditions or pregnancy.
Physical contact is limited but not forbidden. You can share one embrace at the start, one at the end, a brief kiss, and hold hands during the visit.
Good news for families with little ones: children 6 and under can sit on the offender's lap (unless the offender is a sex offender). Regardless of age, kids must stay with an adult visitor throughout the visit.
Quick Checklist
- ✓ Arrive no earlier than 30 minutes before the visiting session starts, and be ready for screening (including full-body scanning).
- ✓ Bring the right photo ID for your age group and wear clothes that aren’t tight/excessively baggy, transparent, or revealing.
