Why Your Visit Request Is 'Pending' or the Scheduler Says 'Call Unit' (Alfred D. Hughes Unit)
Stuck on
When you submit a Relationship Request through the TDCJ online scheduler, it doesn't get approved right away. The request goes to the inmate's unit, where staff verify your relationship before you can schedule anything.
During verification, your request sits in a holding status. You'll see it on your home page under
To check your status, go to your visitor home page and look for
Sometimes your relationship is verified, but the scheduler still won't show a normal
Note: If you see “Not Approved for Visits” instead of a scheduling button, that’s a different issue than “Call Unit.” In that situation, contact the unit to ask what’s needed to move forward.
Watch for this question:
Visit Types
- ✓ Regular - one of the visit types shown in the scheduler
- ✓ Contact - one of the visit types shown in the scheduler
- ✓ Video/Tablet - listed as a visit type in the scheduler, and it is not the same as the Securus Video program
- ✓ If an inmate already has a visit scheduled during a given week, dates in that week will not show up as available dates in the scheduler
- Confirm you’re actually past “Pending Approval” - if your request still shows under “Relation Requests Pending Approval,” it’s still waiting on TDCJ staff at the inmate’s unit of assignment to verify the relationship.
- Re-check the home page status - approval is reflected on your visitor home page; until approval happens, the request stays in the pending section.
- If you see “Call Unit” (or a blank button), call the unit to schedule - that message is the system telling you scheduling has to be handled by the inmate’s unit of assignment instead of through the normal online button.
- Ask the unit (or the inmate) about visit eligibility if you can’t schedule - even after relationship verification, scheduling may not be available if visitation privileges have been removed.
- Double-check visit type and date availability - the scheduler offers different visit types (Regular, Contact, Video/Tablet), and available dates won’t appear for weeks when the inmate already has a visit scheduled.
Tip: Not every visit type shows up in every situation. The scheduler also hides dates in weeks where the inmate already has a visit scheduled - so if you're not seeing open slots, that's often why.
