How to Send Money to Facility
Sending money is possible, but two rules trip people up: you must be an approved visitor, and deposits have to go through the ODRC's approved process.
Only approved visitors can deposit money at this facility. If you're not on the approved visitor list, you won't be able to add funds to an incarcerated person's account. And even if you are approved, you still need to use the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction (ODRC) approved process for deposits.
One extra rule for minors: if someone is designated as an "approved minor" in DOTS Portal, they cannot deposit money (or do video visits) unless a parent or legal guardian is with them.
Steps to Follow
- ✓ Confirm you are an approved visitor for the incarcerated person.
- ✓ Send funds only through the approved ODRC deposit process (use the method the facility/ODRC currently authorizes).
- ✓ If the visitor is listed as an “approved minor” in DOTS Portal, make sure a parent or legal guardian accompanies the minor before attempting any money deposit or video visit.
Before sending money, verify your approved-visitor status for the incarcerated person. Then confirm the exact ODRC-approved deposit method the facility currently accepts. This saves you from wasting time on a method they won't honor.
If the visitor is a minor, check whether they're designated as an "approved minor" in DOTS Portal. If so, find out who the facility considers an acceptable accompanying parent or legal guardian, and what documentation you'll need when completing the transaction.
