Can Family Members Join a Virtual Visit at Florence? What You Need to Know

No. Family members and friends are not permitted to join Virtual Attorney Visitation (VAV) sessions at Central Arizona Florence Correctional Center.

Florence uses Zoom for VAV sessions, keeping attorney-client conversations confidential. Before the meeting starts, the legal representative must show proper identification - a state bar card or other documentation proving bar membership.

VAV is treated as a legal visit, not a family video call. The system exists specifically for confidential attorney-client communication, which is why family members and friends can't join.

Note: During VAV sessions, a visitation officer is stationed outside the confidential room to help maintain safety and security.

  • Call 520-868-9095 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. if you need information about someone housed at the facility.
  • If you need to leave an urgent message, call 520-868-9095 and be ready to provide the detainee’s full name, alien registration number, and your name and telephone number where you can be reached.

Hours and restrictions can change due to COVID or other operational concerns. Call the facility to confirm current hours and any restrictions before making plans.

Think a family member needs to be present for a legal meeting? Start by talking with the attorney. Florence allows interpreters to join VAV sessions through the legal representative, and the attorney can help figure out what accommodation works for your situation. Legal representatives still need to show proper identification before the meeting.

For questions about VAV or to ask about scheduling and any special arrangements, contact the facility’s VAV line at 520-868-9095 or email cafccvisitation@corecivic.com.

  • Recording isn’t allowed: legal representatives and their staff may not video- or audio-record any virtual or in-person visit, or any call, with detainees at the facility.
  • Recording can cost you access: violating the recording rule can lead to suspension or permanent revocation of VAV user privileges.
  • Interpreters can be used: the legal representative may contact outside interpretation services during the call or session if needed.

The setup is straightforward: your loved one sits in a confidential room for the VAV session, with a visitation officer stationed outside for security.

To schedule a VAV video visit or ask questions about the process, call 520-868-9095 or email cafccvisitation@corecivic.com. This same number handles public inquiries about detainees, with calls taken between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Reminder: Visitation hours and restrictions can change due to COVID or other operational concerns - confirm current hours and rules with the facility before you go.
