Setting Up a Virtual Legal Visit (VAV) at Central Arizona Florence: What Attorneys Need to Know

VAV is for confidential attorney-client conversations by video - legal work only. That means the attorney and approved legal team members, not personal visitors. The facility may also use video visitation for other confidential interviews (USCIS, forensic medical evaluators, child welfare matters) when availability allows.

Reminder: VAV is not for family or friends - those participants are not permitted in virtual legal visits at CAFCC.

To schedule a VAV or ask questions, call 520-868-9095 or email cafccvisitation@corecivic.com. This same phone line handles detainee-information requests between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

  • Detainee’s full name (include any hyphenated names and known aliases)
  • A-number (if available)
  • Your contact information
  • A few proposed dates/times for the VAV
  • Names/roles of anyone from the legal team who will participate
  • Interpreter needs (if applicable)

You'll need to show ID proving bar membership before your session starts - a state bar card works. Have it ready so you're not scrambling when the visit begins.

  • State bar card (or other documentation demonstrating bar membership)

Participant rules are strict. Only the legal representative, legal assistants, and interpreters may attend. Family and friends cannot join a virtual legal visit.

VAV sessions are confidential, but facility safety still applies. A visitation officer will be stationed outside the room to maintain security for detained non-citizens using VAV.

Confidential setting, controlled space: VAV rooms are set up for private interviews - including some non-attorney confidential purposes when available - with an officer stationed outside for safety.

Recording is prohibited. CAFCC does not allow legal representatives or staff to make audio or video recordings during virtual visits, in-person visits, or calls with non-citizens. Take notes instead.

Need language support? CAFCC allows attorneys to bring outside interpretation services into a virtual legal visit. Factor that into your scheduling so everyone can join smoothly.

Video visitation at CAFCC isn't limited to attorney-client meetings. It may also be used for USCIS interviews, forensic medical evaluator interviews, or child welfare matters when those options are available.
