How to Send Money to Facility

Every adult visitor who applies for in-person visits, phone visits, or video visits must pay a one-time, non-refundable $25 background check fee. It's built into the application process for adult visitation and related privileges.

There is one common exception. If you only want to accept phone calls from an incarcerated person (and you're not applying for visits), you don't have to pay the $25 background check fee. You'd apply for phone privileges through the regular phone-privilege application process instead.

Timing matters here. Any applicable fees and required supporting documents must be received within 30 days of the date you apply. Miss that 30-day window, and your application is considered incomplete. It won't be processed.

  1. Decide what you are applying for , If you are applying as an adult for in-person, phone, or video visits, plan on the one-time, non-refundable $25 background check fee.
  2. Collect any required supporting documents , If your application requires additional documentation, gather it right away so you are not racing the deadline.
  3. Submit the fee and documents promptly , Make sure the facility receives the applicable fee and any required supporting documents within 30 days of your application date.
  4. Keep proof of what you sent and when , Hold onto confirmations, receipts, and copies so you can show you met the 30-day receipt requirement if there is any delay in processing.

Note: If you only want to accept phone calls from an inmate, you do not pay the $25 background check fee. Use the regular phone-privilege application process instead.

What to Verify

  • Confirm the background check fee amount is still $25 and that it is still one-time and non-refundable for adult applicants for in-person, phone, or video visits.
  • Confirm the 30-day deadline is still based on the application date and that the fee and any required supporting documents must be received within that window.
  • Ask which supporting documents (if any) are required for your specific situation so you can submit everything together.
  • Confirm that your situation qualifies as “phone calls only” (no in-person, phone visits, or video visits) so you do not pay the $25 fee unnecessarily.
  • Ask for the exact steps for the regular phone-privilege application process for phone calls only.

Before you send any payment or paperwork, confirm exactly where the facility wants the fee and supporting documents sent, and how they confirm receipt. Because the 30-day rule is based on when the facility receives everything, it's worth knowing what counts as "received" and what confirmation you can keep for your records.
