Before You Apply to Visit an Inmate at Cheyenne Unit: What You Need to Know
Visiting at Cheyenne Unit starts with an ADCRR visitation application. A couple of small missteps can slow everything down. Use the checklist below to submit the form correctly, pay the right fee (if it applies to you), and avoid an application that never gets processed.
Applications to Visit an Inmate must be submitted electronically. If you're planning a visit, start there. Complete the full online submission before moving on to payment or supporting documents.
Heads up: Do not submit an application while the inmate is in the intake process at Alhambra or Perryville. Wait until intake is complete before you apply.
Fill out every field on the application before submitting. When you complete and submit the form, you're attesting that everything you provided is truthful and accurate. Take a moment to double-check for missing details or typos.
Your application only moves forward if any required supporting documents and applicable background check fees are received within 30 days of your application date. Miss that window, and the application is considered incomplete. It won't be processed.
Most adult visitors pay a one-time, non-refundable $25 background check fee when applying for in-person visits, phone privileges, or video visits. The exception: if you only want to accept phone calls from an inmate (and aren't applying to visit), you don't need to pay the $25 fee.
Plan for processing time. ADCRR asks that you allow up to 60 days to process a visitation application once payment (if applicable) and supporting documentation are received.
How to Pay and Vendor Options
- ✓ Pay the visitation background check fee electronically.
- ✓ Have your Application Visitor ID number ready when you submit your payment.
You can pay the visitation background fee through any of three vendors. Options include storefront or walk-up locations, paying by phone, or using a mobile app or website.
Tips to Avoid Mistakes
- ✓ Complete every field on the application. Submitting the form is your attestation that the information is truthful and accurate.
- ✓ Watch for your approval status through the inmate. Once a decision is made, the inmate is informed, and it is their responsibility to tell you your visitation status.
Keep your Application Visitor ID number handy, especially if you're paying the background check fee online. Save a copy of your payment confirmation or receipt too. You'll want it if there's ever a question about whether payment went through.
