Phone-Only Contact at ADCRR (Including Cheyenne): How to Apply Without Paying the $25 Visitation Background Fee

If you only want phone contact - no in-person visits - you can skip the $25 visitation background check fee. You'll still apply through the regular Application to Visit an Inmate process, but phone-only applicants aren't required to pay that fee.

Note: The fee exemption is for the $25 visitation background check fee only. ADCRR still conducts criminal background checks on people applying for phone privileges.

ADCRR runs criminal background checks on everyone who applies - whether for visits or phone calls. Skipping the $25 fee doesn't mean skipping the screening. It just means you're not paying that specific visitation background check fee to get approved for calls.

Watch your deadlines. If any fees or supporting documents are required for your situation, ADCRR must receive them within 30 days of your application date. Miss that window, and your application is considered incomplete - it won't be processed.

  1. Submit the Application to Visit an Inmate electronically - ADCRR requires both potential visitors and people seeking phone-only contact to submit the same application electronically.
  2. Save your Application Visitor ID number - you’ll need your Application Visitor ID when submitting any electronic payment.
  3. Make payments electronically (only if a payment applies to you) - ADCRR requires all payments to be made electronically, so don’t plan on mailing or dropping off payment in another form.

Warning: Don’t submit an application while the inmate is in the intake process at Alhambra or Perryville.

Expect processing to take time. ADCRR asks applicants to allow 60 days once payment (if applicable) and documentation are received. Remember the 30-day rule: if required fees or documents don't arrive within 30 days of your application date, your application is marked incomplete and won't move forward.

  • Watch the calendar: applicable fees and/or required supporting documents must be received within 30 days of your application date, or the application won’t be processed.
  • Give it time: allow 60 days for processing after any required payment (if applicable) and supporting documentation are received.
  • If you do need to pay for anything, pay electronically and have your Application Visitor ID number ready when you submit payment.
