The $25 visitation background check: how to pay it and how vendors charge per transaction

At ASPC-Red Rock, adult visitors applying for in-person, phone, or video visits must pay a one-time, non-refundable $25 background check fee under Department Order 911. This fee is part of the visitation application process - there's no way around it if you're an adult applying for these visit types.

Timing matters. Your background check fee (plus any required supporting documents) must be received within 30 days of your application date. Miss that window, and your application gets marked incomplete - it won't be processed.

Cash and in-person drop-offs aren't accepted. All payments for the visitation application/background check must be made electronically.

Have your Application Visitor ID number ready before you start paying. You'll need it when you submit payment, so save it somewhere easy to find - a note on your phone or a printed copy with your application paperwork works well.

The $25 visitation background check: how to pay it and how vendors charge per transaction

The base fee is $25, but that might not be your final total. The department lets friends and family pay electronically through third-party vendors, and those vendors can tack on a per-transaction fee. The extra charge varies by vendor and payment method (internet, mobile app, phone, or storefront/walk-up). Two people paying the same $25 fee can end up with different totals.

  • Keefe (Internet) - No fee added (on top of the $25)
  • Keefe (Mobile app) - No fee added (on top of the $25)
  • Keefe (Phone/telephonic) - No fee added (on top of the $25)
  • Keefe (Storefront/walk-up) - No fee added (on top of the $25)
  • JPay (Internet) - $0.95 per transaction (added to the $25)
  • JPay (Mobile app) - $0.95 per transaction (added to the $25)
  • JPay (Phone/telephonic) - $0.95 per transaction (added to the $25)
  • JPay (Storefront/walk-up) - $0.95 per transaction (added to the $25)
  • GTL (CheckFreePay) (Internet) - $1.00 per transaction (added to the $25)
  • GTL (CheckFreePay) (Mobile app) - $1.00 per transaction (added to the $25)
  • GTL (CheckFreePay) (Phone/telephonic) - $1.00 per transaction (added to the $25)
  • GTL (CheckFreePay) (Storefront/walk-up) - $2.50 per transaction (added to the $25)
  • GTL (Western Union) (Internet) - $1.00 per transaction (added to the $25)
  • GTL (Western Union) (Mobile app) - $1.00 per transaction (added to the $25)
  • GTL (Western Union) (Phone/telephonic) - $1.00 per transaction (added to the $25)
  • GTL (Western Union) (Storefront/walk-up) - $4.50 per transaction (added to the $25)

Want to keep costs down? Compare per-transaction fees for the exact method you plan to use - internet, mobile app, phone, or storefront/walk-up - because the add-on varies by vendor and method. Don't wait until the last minute, either. The fee (and any required supporting documents) must be received within 30 days of your application date. Keep your payment confirmation and Application Visitor ID together so you can quickly match your payment to your application if questions come up later.
