What Can You Send in a Letter to Santa Rita? Arizona’s Digital Mail Scanning Rules

Writing someone at Santa Rita? The two things you need to get right are where you mail it and what you put inside. Arizona's digital mail process scans certain items and rejects others. One small mistake can mean wasted postage and a long delay.

All incoming non-legal mail for Santa Rita goes through Arizona's digital mail process. As of December 15, 2025, non-legal mail must be sent to the Digital Processing Center in Texas for scanning and upload. Send it to the wrong place, and everything slows down.

Letters and greeting cards are both accepted for scanning. If it's written correspondence on paper, the digital system can handle it.

Drawings and photos are accepted for scanning too. Want to include a kid's artwork or a printed photo with your message? Go for it, as long as you stick to those allowed paper items.

  • ADCRR number
  • Prison complex and assigned unit

Some categories of mail skip the scanning process entirely. Legal mail, publications (magazines, newspapers, etc.), and packages are not accepted for scanning. These must be addressed and sent to the centralized Phoenix processing address instead.

Once your mail reaches the processing center, Securus says it will take reasonable steps to process, scan, and make it digitally available within 3 business days of receipt. That timeline starts when they receive it, not when you drop it in the mailbox.

Since non-legal mail must go to the Digital Processing Center in Texas (effective December 15, 2025), plan for two parts of the wait: mail delivery time to Texas, plus the up-to-3-business-day processing window after it arrives.

Help line: If mail seems missing or stuck in processing, Securus Customer Service is available 24/7 at (800) 844-6591.

  1. Stick to scannable paper items - Send letters, greeting cards, drawings, and photos. Skip other enclosures.
  2. Do not mail packages to the Digital Processing Center - Packages are not accepted for scanning, and they must go to the centralized Phoenix processing address instead.
  • Send non-legal personal mail to the Digital Processing Center in Texas (effective December 15, 2025).
  • Use: PO Box 211309, Dallas, TX 75211.
  • Include the inmate’s full first and last name.
  • Include the ADCRR number.
  • Include the prison complex and assigned unit.

Sending legal mail or publications? Route them to Phoenix, not Texas. Sending those excluded items to the wrong address is one of the fastest ways to create delays.
