Why your visitation application was returned (and how to avoid it) — Dakota Unit

Most returned applications come down to one thing: an incomplete form. ADCRR requires every field to be filled in, and when you submit, you're also certifying that everything is truthful and accurate. Leave something blank or enter incorrect information, and your application gets kicked back.

  • Scan the form for any blanks before you submit (every information field must be completed)
  • Re-check anything you typed quickly (names, numbers, dates, and contact info) since submitting is your attestation that the information is truthful and accurate
  • Make sure you didn’t skip any required acknowledgments or confirmations on the application

Timing matters too. ADCRR must receive any background-check fees and required supporting documents within 30 days of your application date. Miss that window, and your application is marked incomplete - it won't be processed.

  1. Submit the application - start the process, but don’t assume submission alone is enough.
  2. Get the fee and any required supporting documents in within 30 days - they must be received within 30 days of the application date or the application is considered incomplete and won’t be processed.
  3. Once everything is received, give it time - ADCRR asks you to allow up to 60 days for processing after the required payment (if applicable) and supporting documentation are received.

Warning: If the applicable fee and/or required supporting documents aren’t received within 30 days of the application date, the application is considered incomplete and will not be processed.

If your loved one is still in intake, hold off on applying. ADCRR is clear on this: don't submit a visitation or phone-call application while the inmate is going through intake at Alhambra or Perryville.

Tip: Before you apply, confirm the inmate is no longer in intake. If they’re in intake at Alhambra or Perryville, wait to submit.

How to Avoid and Resubmit

  • Don’t submit the application while the inmate is in intake at Alhambra or Perryville
  • Complete every information field before submitting (no blanks)
  • Only submit information you can stand behind - submitting is your attestation that the information is truthful and accurate
  • Make sure any applicable background-check fee and any required supporting documents are received within 30 days of the application date

Once ADCRR receives your payment (if required) and supporting documents, allow 60 days for processing. Start counting from when those items arrive - not from when you hit submit.

  1. Confirm they’re out of intake - don’t submit while the inmate is in intake at Alhambra or Perryville.
  2. Re-do the application carefully - complete all information fields, and remember that submitting is your attestation that the information is truthful and accurate.
  3. Send what’s required within 30 days - any applicable background-check fees and any required supporting documents must be received within 30 days of the application date or it won’t be processed.
  4. Wait the processing window after receipt - once the required payment (if applicable) and supporting documentation are received, allow 60 days for processing.
