What to Wear (and Not Wear) When Visiting Bell County Camp: Visitor Dress Code Checklist
What you wear to Bell County Camp matters. Show up in the wrong outfit and you won't get through the door. Here's how to dress right and avoid a last-minute denial.
Bell County Camp expects modest, conservative clothing. Your outfit should be fully covered - nothing distracting or revealing. Wear appropriate undergarments, and make sure they stay hidden (no visible bra straps or waistbands). When in doubt, pick the more conservative option.
Not allowed: Provocative, revealing, or see-through clothing can get you turned away, even if the rest of your outfit seems fine.
- ✓ Shorts that are more than 2 inches above the knee when you’re standing
- ✓ Dresses that are more than 2 inches above the knee when you’re standing
- ✓ Skirts that are more than 2 inches above the knee when you’re standing
Leave sleeveless tops at home. Tank tops, halter tops, tube tops - anything without sleeves is prohibited. Choose a shirt that covers your shoulders.
Leggings, yoga pants, and spandex-style bottoms can't be your outermost layer. You can wear them underneath a skirt, dress, or pants that meet the facility's length requirements - but treat them as an under-layer, not the main event.
No clothing with obscene language, images, or symbols. Gang-related insignia and anything staff consider offensive or disruptive will get you turned away. Save the graphic tees for another day.
Hats, caps, bandanas, scarves, and hoods aren't allowed. Religious head coverings are the exception - they're permitted but will be searched.
Staff have the final say. Even if you think your outfit meets the rules, Bell County Camp officers decide what's acceptable. Dress plainly and skip anything borderline.
- Expect staff to flag a problem - if something you’re wearing violates the dress code, staff can stop you during screening.
- Correct it if you can - you may be given a chance to fix the issue, such as changing clothes or covering up.
- Plan for a denial if you can’t - if the problem can’t be corrected, you’ll be denied entry for that visit.
Practical Checklist
- ✓ A modest outfit that’s appropriate for a correctional environment
- ✓ Undergarments that are fully covered and not visible
- ✓ Shorts, a dress, or a skirt that is not more than 2 inches above the knee when standing
- ✓ If you want to wear leggings/yoga pants, a compliant outer layer over them (a skirt, dress, or pants that meet length requirements)
Quick tip: Avoid clothing with obscene, gang-related, offensive, derogatory, or disruptive content. If you wear a religious head covering, expect it to be permitted but searched.
