Visiting Bolivar County Jail With Children & Babies: ID Rules and What You Can Bring
Bringing kids to visit is allowed, but you'll need the right paperwork—and there are limits on what you can carry in. Here's how to avoid getting turned away at check-in.
If your visitor is under 18, they can’t come alone. Minors must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian for the visit.
Anyone 16 or older needs to show a photo ID at every visit. The ID must display the visitor's date of birth, and the visitor has to be on the offender's approved visiting list.
Kids 15 and under need different documentation - bring a legible birth certificate for each child.
Infant Bag Contents
- ✓ One (1) diaper bag
- ✓ Up to four (4) diapers
- ✓ Two (2) bottles
- ✓ One (1) change of baby clothes
- ✓ One (1) pacifier
- ✓ Diaper wipes in a zip-lock bag
You can bring any necessary medication for your infant. Keep it easy to access so staff can check it during the front desk process.
No birth certificate for a child 15 or younger? A photo ID can work as a substitute - but only if it shows the child's date of birth. Without the DOB visible, it won't be accepted.
Not sure your paperwork will pass? Call ahead before making the trip. It beats a long drive and a disappointed kid at the door.
Tips Smoother Visit
- ✓ Bring a quiet, small activity for your child (something easy to hold and put away)
- ✓ Arrive early so you’re not rushing through check-in with kids
- ✓ Prep your child ahead of time with simple rules (use inside voices, stay with you, follow staff instructions)
Warning: Visits can be denied or ended if you're under the influence, refuse a search, falsify ID, dress inappropriately, bring money or negotiable instruments, have disruptive children, make excessive physical contact, or carry contraband. If you leave the designated visiting area for any reason, your visit ends - you won't be allowed back in that day.
