Visiting someone in jail can feel overwhelming the first time. Here are the visit days and times Boone County Jail publishes, plus what to expect for arrival, visit length, and sharing time with family.

One published statement on the Boone County Jail site says: "All on-site video visitation visits must be scheduled in advance by visiting the public lobby during visitation days, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, between the hours of 7:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Visitation for prisoners at the main jail with the last name beginning with the letter A thru letter M is on Tuesday from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Visitation for prisoners at the main jail with the last name beginning with the letter N thru letter Z is on Thursday from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Visitation for all prisoners at the main jail is on Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m."

A separate statement on the same site lists different visit days and a different time window for the weekday visit: "All on-site video visitation visits must be scheduled in advance by visiting iwebvisit.com or by visiting the main jail public lobby during visitation days, Wednesday between 6:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. and Saturday between the hours of 7:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m." That directly conflicts with the Tuesday and Thursday schedule above.

Note: Boone County Jail's own website contains two different published on-site video visitation schedules (Tue/Thu/Sat mornings vs. Wed evening/Sat morning). Plan for either possibility, and verify the current days before you go.

Under the Tuesday and Thursday schedule, each inmate gets a 30 minute visit. Saturday visits are shorter at 15 minutes per inmate. That Saturday time limit is worth planning around, especially if you're traveling or trying to coordinate multiple family members.

Good to know: The alternate schedule lists the same visit lengths (30 minutes for the weekday visit, 15 minutes on Saturday). The main question is which weekday the jail is actually using right now.

The jail lobby doesn't open until 6:45 a.m. If you arrive earlier, expect to wait outside.

Boone County Jail limits the visitation room to one adult visitor (18 years of age or older) with the inmate at a time. Even if your whole group comes together, only one adult will be in the room during any part of the visit.

Up to three (3) individuals can share an inmate's total visit time. In practice, that means families can rotate through, but everyone is dividing the same block of time (the 30-minute or 15-minute limit for that day).

Other Admission Requirements

  • Valid state issued ID
  • Consular ID
  • Passport

Expect to go through security. Any visitor who refuses to consent to a search, or who violates the visitation rules, will be denied admission.

Mask requirement: All persons entering the jail must wear a face mask the entire time they are inside, regardless of vaccination status.

Because Boone County Jail's site publishes two different visit-day schedules, check their visitation information carefully before you make the trip. I recommend confirming the current visit day and time window the day before, and again the morning of your visit if you can. You don't want to show up on the wrong weekday.
