How to Request Inmate Records from Bullitt County Detention Center
Need records connected to someone held at Bullitt County Detention Center? You'll have a much smoother process if your request is written, specific, and sent to the right custodian. Here's what to include, where to send it, and what happens next.
This guide is for family members, friends, and anyone else looking to request inmate-related records from Bullitt County Detention Center. Not every record can be released, though. Kentucky law (KRS 61.878(1)) allows certain records to be withheld, including those that would be a clearly unwarranted invasion of personal privacy. Records tied to law enforcement or administrative adjudication investigations can also be withheld if releasing them too early would cause harm by premature disclosure. In those cases, you may be able to inspect the records after enforcement action wraps up or a decision is made to take no action (other exceptions can apply too).
Bullitt County Detention Center requires all requests to copy or review public records to be submitted in writing. Put your request in a clear, readable format before sending it.
Must Include
- ✓ The inmate’s full name and date of birth
- ✓ A completed standardized open records request form (or a typed or legibly printed written request)
- ✓ Your printed name and signature
- ✓ A description of the specific records you want to review or receive copies of
Include a mailing address so the facility can send correspondence back to you. If you submit by email, know that the records-request email address is for receiving requests only. It won't be used to answer questions or provide status updates.
For non-medical public records, send your request to the Custodian of Public Records, Major Dinarte Pimentel, at dpimentel@bullittky.com or call 502-543-7263. For inmate medical records, contact the QCHC Regional Director of Nursing, Erin Thurman, at erin.thurman@qchcweb.net. The published phone number is 502-543-7263.
For general contact purposes, Bullitt County Detention Center's mailing address is 1671 S. Preston Hwy, Shepherdsville, KY 40165. The general phone number is 502-543-7263, fax is 502-955-8288, and general email is bullittcojail@gmail.com.
You can submit written public records requests by email or mail at any time. Hand delivery works too, but only during general public business hours: Monday through Friday, 0800 to 1600 (excluding holidays).
Reminder: The provided records-request email will accept records requests only. It will not respond to requests for information or status updates.
Once Bullitt County Detention Center receives your written request, the facility has five business days to respond by statute. Weekends and legal holidays don't count.
Their response will tell you one of three things: the record may be inspected, the record may not be inspected, or the record is currently unavailable. If it's unavailable, they should also let you know when it's expected to be ready.
Before any records are delivered, the records custodian will send you an invoice covering production costs and postage. Records are processed after payment in full is received.
Troubleshoot
- ✓ Missing basics in the request, especially a mailing address for further correspondence
- ✓ Records withheld under KRS 61.878(1), including material that would be a clearly unwarranted invasion of personal privacy
- ✓ Investigation-related records withheld to avoid premature disclosure, with inspection possible after enforcement action is completed or a decision is made to take no action (and other exceptions may apply)
Tip: Don't email the records-request address for updates. It's set up to receive requests only, not to answer status questions.
