Bringing Personal Items to an Inmate at Calloway County: The 5-Day Rule

If your loved one was just booked into Calloway County Jail, you have a short window to drop off approved items in person. The jail accepts permitted items at the main facility during regular business hours - but only within five days of intake. After that window closes, you'll need to mail items directly from a manufacturer or retailer. No more in-person drop-offs.

Permitted Examples

• ✓ Up to four (4) pairs of socks (white or gray only; must be new in an unopened package)
• ✓ Four (4) sets of cotton underwear (must be new in an unopened package)
• ✓ Two (2) bras for female inmates (no underwire)
• ✓ One (1) pair of prescription/reading glasses

Packaging matters. Socks and cotton underwear must be brand-new and sealed in the original, unopened package. Staff need to verify what's inside, so opened packages won't be accepted. For socks, you're limited to four pairs, and they must be white or gray only.

Once those first five days pass, the jail switches to a "ship-from-the-source" rule. Permitted items must come directly from the manufacturer or retailer - think Walmart, Amazon, or brands like Nike. When placing an order, follow the facility's addressing format exactly so the package reaches the right inmate without delays.

1. Stick to the permitted list - Only bring the specific items the main jail allows (like the limited socks/underwear, approved bras, and one pair of glasses).
2. Keep clothing sealed and new - Socks and cotton underwear must be in new, unopened packages; don’t “help” by opening or combining packages.
3. Use the manufacturer/retailer option after day 5 - If you’re outside the five-day intake window, order so the package ships directly from the retailer/manufacturer.
4. Use the correct inmate details when sending - Make sure the package is addressed using the facility’s required format so it can be properly identified and processed.
