Starting November 1, the jail ended in-person visits entirely. All visitation now happens by video through PayTel. No more face-to-face - you'll schedule and attend visits through their video system instead.

You'll schedule visits through the PayTel website. If this is your first time using PayTel, give yourself some extra time to get through the setup without feeling rushed.

No computer or smartphone? You can still visit. The jail has a video visitation kiosk in the visitation room for people who can't do video visits from home.

  • Schedule kiosk visits during lobby hours: 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM.
  • Plan the kiosk visit for the same day the inmate’s in-person visit was previously scheduled on.

Good news: not every visit costs money. Each inmate gets one free 15-minute video visit per week. Additional visits beyond that run $0.30 per minute.

Need help scheduling, or don't have the tech to visit from home? Call the jail at 252-504-4832 and choose option 6. This is also the Carteret County Sheriff's Office line for questions about the online inmate inquiry system.

Tip: When you call for video visit help, ask for First Sergeant Chadwick. Staff are available to help with scheduling and technical issues.

Planning to use the on-site kiosk? Schedule your visit between 8:30 AM and 4:30 PM - that's when the lobby is open. Don't wait until late afternoon and risk missing the window.
