How to Get Approved to Visit Someone at Chillicothe Correctional Center

Visiting someone at Chillicothe Correctional Center requires pre-approval through Missouri Department of Corrections. The review includes a criminal history check, so take your time and fill out the application carefully. Here's the catch: once a decision is made, the offender gets notified first. They're responsible for letting you know your status. Don't expect to hear directly from DOC - plan to confirm through the person you're visiting.

Warning: Submitting an application is not the same as being approved. Do not attempt a visit until final approval is received.

Before you start the online application, get the offender's Department of Corrections Identification Number (DOC ID). You can't submit without it. The easiest approach? Ask the offender directly and keep the number handy while you fill everything out.

How to Get Approved to Visit Someone at Chillicothe Correctional Center
  1. Start the online visiting application and plan to complete it in one go - the Missouri DOC application is meant to be completed in its entirety, so set aside a few uninterrupted minutes.
  2. Enter the offender’s DOC ID - you must have the offender’s Department of Corrections Identification Number (DOC ID) for the application to submit.
  3. Fill in every required field - fields marked with an asterisk (*) are required, and missing required information can hold up the review.
  4. Submit only after you’ve double-checked your answers - the application is reviewed and a criminal history check is conducted as part of that process.

Reminder: Wait for final approval before you go to the facility. Applying doesn’t give you visiting privileges yet.

Applying for a minor child? There's a workaround for the Identification Number section. Choose "other – on type" for Identification Number, then enter "NA – on Number."

After you submit, Missouri DOC reviews your application and runs a criminal history check. This takes time - don't plan a trip until you know the decision. Once approved, the offender is notified and will let you know your status. Until then, don't show up at the facility. Arriving before approval means a wasted trip.

Denied? You can appeal in writing within 30 days. Send your letter to: Deputy Division Director of Adult Institutions, Missouri Department of Corrections, 2729 Plaza Drive, PO Box 236, Jefferson City, MO 65102. If you don't appeal or the denial stands, you're not permanently blocked. You can reapply after one year.

Questions while completing the application? Contact the offender's facility directly. Chillicothe Correctional Center is located at 3151 Litton Road, Chillicothe, MO 64601.

Visiting hours: Chillicothe Correctional Center is open for visiting Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Treatment residents’ visits are scheduled so they don’t conflict with treatment classes.
