Only people on a prisoner's approved Visiting List can schedule or attend visits at Chippewa CF. If you're not listed, ask the prisoner to add you. Start by completing the CAJ-103 visiting application through MDOC's approved electronic process or by mailing it to the facility (incomplete applications won't be processed). Approval can take up to four weeks, and you can't schedule a visit until you're approved. Once approved, register on the Michigan DOC ViaPath visitation scheduling site to book in-person or video visits. Visits must be scheduled at least 48 hours and no more than seven days in advance. MDOC releases time slots at 8:00 a.m. starting Oct. 25, 2025. When you arrive, sign in, show pictured ID, follow dress and conduct rules, stay in public visiting areas, and keep in mind the limit is five visitors at a time.

Chippewa Correctional Facility uses ViaPath (GTL) for video visits and telephone service. Video visits last 20 minutes and cost $3.20 per visit, paid in advance by the visitor. Most non-legal video visits are recorded by default, but attorney-client calls are not. Log into the ViaPath visitor website at least 10 minutes before your scheduled time and be ready to show pictured ID on camera. Up to five people can join a video visit, and children under two don't count toward the limit. The facility enforces attire and no-item rules during video visits, and immediate family can show legal documents if needed. For phone calls, GTL rates are $0.0735 per minute (effective 10/1/2023). Family and friends can typically add funds online, by phone, or at on-site kiosks, though available options vary by facility. When making a payment, select the correct facility and inmate, then choose the deposit type (commissary, bond, or bill) before paying. Online and phone deposits require the inmate's full name and a facility or booking ID, plus your billing information. Double-check IDs and amounts, follow the payment prompts, and confirm the deposit went through.
