Three Ways to Send Money to Someone at Cimarron (why you can't give cash at a visit)
Want to put money on someone's account at Cimarron? You can't hand over cash or a check during a visit. Instead, you'll need to use one of the approved transfer methods below.
Cimarron doesn't accept money during visits or through the mail. Staff won't take cash, checks, or drop-offs when you come in. To get money to your person, use the facility's approved transfer process - the same one listed under "Money Transfer" in their official materials.
For lockbox mail, send a money order or cashier's check made payable to the inmate. Personal checks and cash aren't accepted - skip both to avoid delays or rejection.
Address the envelope exactly like this so it routes to the right commissary account: CORECIVIC Inmate Last name, First name, Commissary Number Facility: P.O. BOX 16545 Atlanta, GA 30321-0545
- ✓ Use a money order or cashier’s check only (no cash, no personal checks)
- ✓ Make it payable to the inmate
- ✓ Address it exactly as: “CORECIVIC Inmate Last name, First name, Commissary Number” and send it to P.O. BOX 16545, Atlanta, GA 30321-0545
- ✓ Put a clear return address on the envelope
Sending through Western Union/Send2Corrections? You'll need the person's commissary number, and the name has to be formatted a specific way. Use this pattern: "Corrections Corp. of America [commissary number] Last, First." Example: "Corrections Corp. of America 12354 Smith, James."
Note: The commissary number and exact name format matter. Small errors can delay posting to the correct account.
To send a Western Union payment by phone, call 1-800-634-3422 and choose option 2. You’ll need a credit or debit card to complete the transfer.
Cimarron limits who can send money orders. Only immediate family members who've submitted a visitation application and been approved can send them. If you're not immediate family - or your situation is unusual - the warden has to approve an exception.
- ✓ Mother
- ✓ Father
- ✓ Sister
- ✓ Brother
- ✓ Son
- ✓ Daughter
- ✓ Grandmother
- ✓ Grandfather
- ✓ Wife
- ✓ Husband
Practical Checklist
- ✓ Get the correct commissary number before you send anything
- ✓ If you’re using lockbox mail, send a money order or cashier’s check only (no cash, no personal checks)
- ✓ Address the lockbox envelope exactly as required and include a clear return address
- ✓ If you’re using Western Union/Send2Corrections, enter the name in the required format: “Corrections Corp. of America [commissary] Last, First”
Reminder: Only approved immediate family members can send money orders, unless the warden grants an exception.
