Picking Up Property After Release from Clark County Jail: Authorization, ID, and the 60-Day Deadline

The jail won't release an inmate's personal property to you unless the inmate has authorized you as the pickup person. No authorization, no property - even if you're immediate family.

Once you're authorized, bring valid picture ID. Staff will verify your identity before handing anything over.

What to Bring

  • A valid picture ID (you’ll be asked to show it for verification)
  • Any written authorization you have available (if the inmate provided something in writing)

Expect some waiting. Even with everything in order, staff need time to retrieve and release the property.

Don't wait if the inmate gets transferred. Clark County Jail may dispose of or donate property that isn't picked up within 60 days after a transfer. Treat that window as a hard deadline and arrange pickup as soon as possible.

Vehicles work differently. If a car was impounded or reported stolen, you'll deal with the tow company directly - not the jail.

To get an impounded or stolen vehicle released, bring proof of ownership and be ready to pay tow fees. Without both, the tow company won't release it.

  1. Confirm you’re authorized - the inmate must authorize you before Clark County Jail can release their personal property to you.
  2. Bring a valid picture ID - staff will verify your identity before they hand anything over.
  3. Expect a wait - even with authorization and ID, you may need to wait while the property is retrieved and released.
  4. Don’t miss the 60-day window after a transfer - if the inmate is transferred and the property isn’t picked up within 60 days, it may be disposed of or donated.

Note: Unsure about authorization or the 60-day timeline? Call Jail Services before you make the trip - it could save you a wasted visit or lost property.
