What You Can (and Can’t) Mail to Someone at Clay County Jail — A Clear Checklist
Nothing's more frustrating than having mail rejected when you're just trying to stay connected. The checklists below will help you make sure your letter (and any photos) meet Clay County Jail's rules—so it actually gets delivered instead of returned or destroyed.
For regular friends-and-family mail (non-legal), use this address as of 2/24/2025: Clay County Jail, FL PO Box 76550 Highland Heights, KY 41076 Include the inmate's name and inmate ID on the envelope. Send standard mail anywhere else and it gets rejected - double-check before you drop it in the mailbox.
Legal mail works differently. Letters from attorneys or legal representatives - plus packages, publications, and money orders - go to the jail's physical address: Clay County Jail 901 North Orange Avenue Green Cove Springs, FL 32043 Include the inmate's name and ID here too. Send legal mail or money orders to the Highland Heights PO Box by mistake? They'll be returned to sender.
Return Requirements
- ✓ Write the inmate’s full name and inmate ID on the address (for both non-legal and legal mail).
- ✓ Put your full return address on the envelope.
- ✓ Use the correct address for the type of mail: non-legal mail goes to the PO Box in Highland Heights, KY; legal mail/packages/publications/money orders go to 901 North Orange Avenue in Green Cove Springs, FL.
Keep it letter-sized and easy to scan. Mail must be no larger than 8.5 x 11 inches, no thicker than light card stock, and able to run through a sheet-fed scanner. Bulky, rigid, or oddly shaped items? Expect them to be rejected.
Want to include something with your letter? The rule is simple: pictures only. They must be actual photographs printed on photo paper - not just any printed image.
- ✓ Only photos may be included as enclosures - no other extras.
- ✓ Limit photos to 10 photographs per package.
- ✓ Photos must be printed on photo paper.
Prohibited and Processing
- ✓ Stamps
- ✓ Blank envelopes
- ✓ Stationery
- ✓ Cash, checks, or any other form of currency included with correspondence
Your mail will be opened and inspected - and may be read - to check for contraband or rule violations. If staff find something that breaks the rules, the mail can be destroyed without being returned. Keep it simple and stick to the allowed format.
Note: Certified mail that requires the inmate’s signature will be returned to sender instead of delivered.
Two common mistakes get mail returned. First: legal mail and money orders must go to 901 North Orange Avenue in Green Cove Springs. Send them to the Highland Heights PO Box and they come right back. Second: as of 2/24/2025, mail sent to any address other than the jail's specified mailing addresses gets rejected. If this happens, fix the address, make sure the inmate name and ID are included, and resend to the correct location.
Quick Checklist
- ✓ I used the right address for the type of mail (non-legal PO Box vs legal/other items to 901 North Orange Avenue).
- ✓ The envelope includes the inmate’s name and inmate ID.
- ✓ My return address is on the envelope.
- ✓ Everything inside is letter-size (8.5 x 11 or smaller), not thicker than light card stock, and can go through a sheet-fed scanner.
- ✓ If I included photos, they’re the only enclosure, printed on photo paper, and there are no more than 10.
