How to Schedule Your First Visit at Coastal State Prison (GA)
Scheduling your first visit at Coastal State Prison starts with getting approved through the Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC). Once approved, you can submit a visit request—just don't miss the weekly and holiday cutoffs.
Before you can schedule a visit at Coastal State Prison, you need to become an approved visitor. GDC handles this through a Visitation Request Form - fill it out and submit it to the facility where your loved one is housed. Until you're approved, you can't move forward with requesting a visit.
Note: Being an “approved visitor” means you’ve been cleared to request visits through the GDC process. Approval is handled by the facility, so don’t treat a submitted form as the same thing as a confirmed visit.
Once approved, request a scheduled visit through the GDC visitation page. Look for the "Request a Scheduled Visit" or "Request a visit" option and follow the prompts. Submitting that request kicks off the scheduling process.
Tip: If you haven’t completed the Visitation Request Form and been approved yet, do that first - then come back and submit the scheduled-visit request through the GDC form.
Planning a weekend visit? Submit your request by 5:00 PM on Wednesday of that same week. Wait until Thursday or Friday, and you've already missed the deadline.
Holiday visits have a separate deadline: 5:00 PM three days before the holiday. That window closes fast, especially when a holiday falls right after a weekend.
Reminder: These cutoffs are firm. Miss them, and you won't get the visit you want. Submit early rather than waiting until the last afternoon.
After submitting your request, you'll wait for it to be processed. Save any confirmation details the form provides and follow any instructions tied to your request. The key thing: submitting a request isn't the same as a confirmed visit. Your visit isn't official until GDC finalizes it.
- ✓ Your loved one’s full name and GDC ID number
- ✓ Your own identifying details exactly as you entered them on the request
- ✓ A way to access the email account you used on the form (so you can find confirmations or updates)
- ✓ A backup plan for dates, in case your first choice can’t be scheduled
Need to bring someone else to an already-scheduled visit? Use the "Add Visitor" option on the GDC visitation page. This lets you find your appointment and add guests without canceling the whole thing.
Can't make your appointment? Don't let it ride - use the "Cancel my visit" link on the GDC visitation page. Use "Add Visitor" when you're keeping the visit but changing who's coming; use "Cancel" when the visit itself won't happen.
