How to set up your first video visit with an inmate at Columbiana County Jail

As of August 28, 2022, all visitation at Columbiana County Jail happens via video. No more in-person visits at a window. Your first step is getting set up in the video system so you can be approved and book a time slot.

Video visits run through Securus. Create an account on their website or download the mobile app. Once you're signed up, comes the part that trips people up: you'll need to request visitation access by submitting photos for approval.

  • A photo of yourself
  • A photo of a government-issued ID

After setting up your Securus account, request visitation access. This means submitting two images: a photo of yourself and a photo of your government-issued ID. Then you wait. Until you're approved, you can't schedule anything - so don't skip this step thinking you'll do it later.

Note: You can’t schedule a video visit until your visitation access has been granted after you submit your photo and government-issued ID.

Even after approval, visits aren't instant. Columbiana County Jail requires you to request visits at least 12 hours in advance. Hoping to talk tonight? You might already be too late. Plan ahead and request your visit earlier in the day - or the day before - to stay within that 12-hour window.

Reminder: Because visitation at Columbiana County Jail is video-only, the 12-hour advance request rule is part of the standard scheduling process.

Remote visits through Securus - from your phone, tablet, or computer at home - cost money. The jail offers both 20-minute and 40-minute sessions, and you'll see those options when scheduling.

There's a key difference between remote and onsite visits. If you go to the jail lobby for your video visit, it's free. Remote visits from home cost money. Think of it as paid convenience versus free access at the facility. Confirm what's currently available before making plans.

  • Make sure you’ve submitted both required images: a photo of yourself and a photo of your government-issued ID.
  • If your access hasn’t been granted yet, wait for approval - scheduling won’t work until that happens.
  • If you’re trying to book a visit soon, check the clock: visits must be requested at least 12 hours in advance.
  • If something went wrong with your submission, re-submit the required photos and request visitation access again before trying to schedule.

Interested in the free lobby option? Call ahead before driving over. Onsite scheduling can work differently than remote visits.
