How to Get Approved to Visit Someone at Correctional Reception Center (CRC): Complete Application Checklist

Before you apply to visit someone at Correctional Reception Center (CRC), know these two rules. First, reception centers limit visitors to immediate family members, the parent(s) of the incarcerated person's children, and one designated support person. Second, people newly arrived at CRC can't receive visits during their first eight (8) days - so even if your application is ready, you'll need to wait for that window to pass.

Warning: Failure to answer any question or falsifying answers on the visitor application will result in disapproval of the application.

Forms Documents First Visit

  • Visiting Application (DRC2096)
  • Declaration of Understanding (DRC2554) - signed
  • General Visiting Instructions (DRC2274) - signed
  • A legible copy of your photo ID (provided with the visitor application)

CRC requires a legible copy of your photo ID with the visitor application. If the copy is hard to read, it can slow things down because the application is tied to the identity information you provide.

If you’re currently on probation or parole, include a letter from your probation/parole officer granting permission to visit. Without that written permission, your application won’t meet the requirement for approval.

There’s a narrow ID exception for Amish visitors. Individuals who identify as Amish may visit one time only without standard photo ID; after that, they must present an approved non-photo state ID or other specified documentation on subsequent visits.

Once you submit your paperwork, unit staff review your application using DOTS and other records. They search DOTS Portal screens NAMS1, SCOPE, VNAMS, and VADDS to check for past restrictions and visitation history before making a decision.

Heads up: Missing or false answers can get your application denied. Staff also run DOTS/records checks (NAMS1, SCOPE, VNAMS, VADDS) to look for restrictions or visitation history that could affect approval.

Call CRC 10–14 business days after submitting your application to check your status. Don't just wait and wonder.

  1. Register with www.gtlvisitme.com - this is required if your visitor application is approved.
  2. Make a visit reservation - once you’re registered, you can schedule the visit through the reservation system.
