What Not to Bring: Items That Will Get You Turned Away at the CRC Visiting Room
CRC doesn't allow electronic devices in the visiting room. Show up with electronics and you'll waste time at check-in sorting it out - or get turned away entirely. Do a quick pocket check before you leave home.
No electronics: Leave smart watches, cell phones, pagers, and other electronic communication devices out of the visiting room.
Leave your purse, handbag, backpack, or any similar bag behind. This is one of the fastest ways to get stopped at the checkpoint. You'll have to go back and secure it somewhere else before continuing - eating into your visit time.
- ✓ Clear diaper bag only
- ✓ A reasonable number of diapers and baby wipes
- ✓ Up to three clear plastic baby bottles
- ✓ Up to three clear plastic containers of baby food
- ✓ One pacifier
CRC follows ODRC's zero-tolerance policy for drugs. This isn't just a visiting rule - bringing drugs into the facility is a violation of Ohio law with serious consequences. If there's any chance something could be considered contraband, leave it behind.
Cash is also banned on CRC grounds. Same goes for weapons or deadly ordnance, including parts or ammunition. Ohio law prohibits knowingly conveying - or even attempting to convey - these items onto detention facility grounds. Leave them at home or secured off-site.
All visitors go through screening at entry. What you wear and what's in your pockets matters. A few small choices at home can save you from delays - or from losing visiting time while staff figure out what triggered the alarm.
- Do a pocket check before you walk in - empty everything you don’t need so you’re not troubleshooting items at the door.
- Skip hairpins if you can - hairpins are known to set off metal detectors and can slow down entry.
- Choose a non-underwire bra - underwire bras commonly trigger the detector.
- Keep footwear simple - certain boots and shoes can set off the metal detector.
- Avoid outfits with multiple zippers - extra metal on clothing can cause delays.
- Wear minimal jewelry - excessive jewelry is another common reason visitors get held up during screening.
Heads up: Hairpins, underwire bras, and excessive jewelry can set off the metal detector and delay your entry - enough to cut into your visit or stop it altogether.
