When to Call CRC About Your Visiting Application (And What to Ask)

Call CRC 10–14 business days after you submit your visiting application to check your approval status. This timing matters. Too early, and staff likely won't have a decision yet. Too late, and you might be missing visit slots without knowing it. Have the date you submitted your packet handy - it helps them find your file faster.

Note: You can't visit until your application is processed and you're officially approved. Also, reception incarcerated persons can't receive visits during their first eight (8) days at CRC - so timing your follow-up call matters.

What to Have

  • A legible copy of your photo ID (the same kind of copy required with the adult visiting application)
  • Confirmation that you completed the Visiting Application (DRC-2096)
  • Confirmation that you signed DRC-2554 (Declaration of Understanding)
  • Confirmation that you signed DRC-2274 (General Visiting Instructions)
  • The date you submitted your application packet
  • Your name (as it appears on your ID)
  • The incarcerated person’s name and number
  • A copy of the application packet (if you kept one)

One more thing: once you're approved, CRC/ODRC uses ViaPath for scheduling in-person or video visits. You don't need to register beforehand, but ask during your call what your next step is. That way you're not stuck waiting again after you get the green light.

When to Call CRC About Your Visiting Application (And What to Ask)
  1. Confirm they received your application - Give your full name and the date you submitted the packet, and ask them to verify it’s in their system.
  2. Ask for your current status - “Is my visiting application approved, pending, or denied?” (Visitation is not granted until the application is processed and you’re approved and notified.)

If they say you're denied, don't accept a vague answer. Ask for the specific reason. Then ask what comes next - can you resubmit? Do they need a missing document or signature before they'll process it?

  • “Now that I’m approved (or once I’m approved), do I need to register with ViaPath to schedule an in-person or video visit?”
  • “Can you confirm I’m on the incarcerated person’s approved visiting list?”
  • “How many visiting sessions are allowed per calendar month from each approved visitor on the list?”
  • “What’s the maximum number of visitors allowed at one time (including walking children)?”

Note: Ask about same-day practicality by confirming the processing cutoffs: visitors must be processed before 9:15 a.m. for the AM session and by 1:00 p.m. for the PM session.

To follow up, call the Correctional Reception Center (CRC) at (614) 877-2441. The facility is at 11271 State Route 762, Orient, OH 43146. CRC's in-person and video visiting hours are posted on the ODRC website - check the current schedule before calling so you reach the visiting office when they're available.
