Before you schedule anything - or make the drive - look up the incarcerated person using the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) inmate search tool. Confirm you have the right person and double-check which facility they're housed at. Scheduling depends on their current location, so this step saves headaches later.

Adult visitors (18+) need to complete the Prospective Visitor Interview (PVI) form (DOC 0148) before their first visit - unless you're a legal visitor or government official. IDOC offers the form online in English and Spanish. Filling it out ahead of time makes your first check-in smoother.

Ready to schedule? You'll use IDOC's online SignUpGenius system to pick a visit time. One catch: the session times out after 30 minutes of inactivity, and once you start, you need to finish within that window. Have your details ready before you begin so you don't lose your spot mid-signup.

On visit day, arrive at least 10 minutes before your scheduled time. Check-in steps can take a while, and showing up late could cost you your visit.

  • Two forms of identification (adults)
  • One current state-issued photo ID (must be one of your two IDs)
  • Vehicle information (be ready to provide it at check-in)

All visitors go through a COVID-19 symptom and temperature screening before entry. Danville Correctional Center provides surgical masks to visitors over the age of two, so you don't need to bring your own.

Note: Visitors must submit to a body search by officers at the Visitor Center. If you’re intoxicated or under the influence of alcohol or drugs, you won’t be permitted to enter.

Even when you've done everything right, visits can be denied, suspended, or restricted by the facility's chief administrative officer. Reasons include security concerns, space limits, disruptive conduct by either party, abuse of visiting privileges, or violations of state/federal laws or departmental rules. If you're traveling a long distance, confirm your plans before you leave - a last-minute change shouldn't turn into a wasted trip.
