Start with the IDOC inmate search tool to find the person you want to visit and confirm their facility. You'll need the correct facility information before scheduling an in-person visit. Double-check you have the right individual in the search results, then use that facility info as your starting point for everything that follows.

Before your first visit, you'll need to complete the Prospective Visitor's Interview (PVI) form, DOC 0148. At Danville, all adult visitors ages 18 and older must complete this for a first visit (legal visitors and government officials are exempt). The form is available online in both English and Spanish. Fill it out ahead of time and bring everything you need to complete it accurately. This helps you avoid delays at check-in.

Danville uses SignUpGenius for online visit scheduling. Once you start, keep moving until you're done. The system times out after 30 minutes of inactivity, and you'll have to start over.

  • Use the IDOC inmate search tool first so you have the correct person and facility information in front of you while you schedule
  • Complete the Prospective Visitor’s Interview (PVI) form (DOC 0148) ahead of time if possible, so you’re not scrambling during sign-up or before you leave
  • Have your two forms of identification ready, including one current state-issued photo ID
  • Keep your vehicle information handy, since you’ll be required to provide it at check-in

Arrive at Danville Correctional Center at least 10 minutes before your scheduled visit time. That buffer gives you time to park, get oriented, and complete check-in without rushing. Cut it too close, and a small delay can turn into a missed visit.

  • Two forms of identification (one must be a current state-issued photo ID)
  • Vehicle information to provide at check-in

Even when you do everything right, visiting privileges can be denied, suspended, or restricted by the facility's chief administrative officer. Common reasons include security and safety requirements, space availability, disruptive conduct by the visitor or the incarcerated individual, abuse of visiting privileges, or violations of state or federal law or departmental rules. If your visit is stopped for one of these reasons, you'll need to follow the facility's direction before trying again.

Note: If you’re traveling a long distance, build in extra time and have a backup plan. If your visit is unexpectedly denied or suspended, contact the facility to find out the next step before you make another trip.
