How to Become an Approved Visitor at Dayton Correctional and Use the ViaPath Portal

Getting approved to visit at Dayton Correctional Institution is a two-part process. First, you submit the Ohio DRC visitation application packet to the facility for approval. Then you use the ViaPath portal to reserve an in-person or video visit.

Visiting someone at Dayton Correctional Institution takes two steps, done in order. First, complete the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction visitation application packet and submit it to Dayton Correctional for review. Once you're approved as a visitor for that specific incarcerated person, you'll use ViaPath to make your visit reservations.

ViaPath handles all the scheduling. Once you're approved, you'll register with ViaPath and use it to book either an in-person visit or a video visit.

When you fill out the visitation application (DRC-2096), include a legible copy of your photo ID. If the copy is blurry or cut off, it can slow things down. Staff need to clearly read it before they can move your application forward.

  • If you are currently on probation or parole, include a letter from your probation/parole officer granting permission to visit.
  • If you are bringing a minor or your visit involves a minor, have the required documents ready (for example custody paperwork, a birth certificate, and an authorization of minor child form). If you do not have the needed paperwork, Dayton Correctional may not allow entry.

Note: Visitation applications can be denied if the visit is not expected to have a positive effect on the incarcerated person’s attitude, behavior, overall adjustment, or reentry efforts.

Send your completed application packet (with your ID copy and any required supporting documents) directly to Dayton Correctional Institution. You can submit by U.S. mail, fax, or email. Do not send it to ODRC's central mail processing center.

Before you make the trip, confirm visiting hours with the institution. Dayton Correctional's schedule can change without notice, and a quick call ahead of time can save you a wasted drive.

Once you're approved, register with ViaPath and use the portal to reserve your visits. At Dayton Correctional Institution, all visit reservations go through ViaPath.

  1. Wait until you are approved - ViaPath scheduling is for approved visitors, and registering too early can slow down your ViaPath approval.
  2. Create your ViaPath account - Use the Ohio DRC ViaPath visitation site to set up your profile.
  3. Reserve your visit time - Choose an available date and time for an in-person or video visit, then submit your reservation through the portal.

If you get stuck at the login screen or cannot access your ViaPath account, call 1-800-646-6283 for help.

Note: ViaPath is used statewide. You'll receive an email if there are any changes to your reservation.

After you submit your packet, Dayton Correctional reviews it and issues an approval or denial. You need that approval before ViaPath registration and reservations will work properly.

Applications are not automatically approved. A visit can be denied if it's not expected to help the incarcerated person's attitude, behavior, overall adjustment, or reentry efforts. Either way, the facility communicates the outcome so both you and the incarcerated person know what happened.

Note: First-time visitors at Dayton Correctional must complete an orientation session. It begins promptly at noon for the first session (12:15–3:15 p.m.) or at 4 p.m. for the second session (4:30–7:30 p.m.).
