Visitation

How to Make Your First Visit to Dayton Correctional (step-by-step)

3 min read Verified from official sources

Visiting Dayton Correctional for the first time? This walkthrough covers the parts that commonly trip people up: getting approved, registering the right way, showing up for the required orientation, and bringing the right documents so you're not turned away at the door.

Before you can schedule anything, you need to be approved as a visitor. Dayton Correctional follows the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction process, which starts with the ODRC visitation application packet (DRC-2096). Complete the packet, submit it to the facility, and wait for approval before moving on to the reservation system.

  • Include a legible copy of your photo ID with your visitation application packet (DRC-2096).

Once you're approved, you'll make visit reservations through the ViaPath portal. Dayton Correctional requires all reservations to go through ViaPath, so create your account there ahead of time and use it to schedule your visit.

If you get stuck at the login screen or can't access your account, call ViaPath support at 1-800-646-6283. Sort that out before the day of your visit so you're not scrambling last minute.

Your first visit includes a required orientation session. There are two sessions: the first begins promptly at noon (12:15–3:15 p.m.), and the second starts at 4 p.m. (4:30–7:30 p.m.). Plan your arrival around one of those start times so you don't miss it.

Step4 Arrival Documents Searches

  • Bring any required paperwork related to your visit, including custody paperwork (if applicable).
  • Bring a birth certificate when it is needed for the visitor.
  • Bring the authorization of minor child form when a minor child is involved.
  • Do not assume you can “bring it next time.” If required documents are missing, you will not be permitted to enter.

Note: Leave all electronic devices in your car, including smart watches, cell phones, and pagers. ODRC has zero tolerance for bringing drugs, alcohol, or weapons into its institutions. Violations can lead to serious consequences, including criminal charges.

Inside the visiting area, keep things simple. Electronic devices (smart watches, cell phones, pagers, etc.) are not allowed, and ODRC treats contraband with zero tolerance, especially drugs, alcohol, or weapons. If you're unsure about an item, leave it behind. It's not worth getting your visit cut short or facing consequences.

Manage your reservation details through ViaPath. You'll receive an email if there are any changes to your reservation.

For ViaPath login trouble, the support number is 1-800-646-6283.

If you're unsure about a local detail (or visiting around a holiday), call the institution before you drive in. Schedules and procedures can change, and a quick call can save you a wasted trip.

Planning to use the vending machines during your visit? Bring a credit or debit card. The machines at Dayton Correctional only accept credit/debit cards.
