How to receive, fund and stop Chirping texts at Dearborn County Jail

Dearborn County Jail uses Inmate Sales for text messaging, and Chirping is the product name. When an inmate has funds available on the Chirping device, they can text any cell phone. The Chirp appears on your phone as a normal text.

During the first three days of having the device, an inmate may send five free automated messages each day. These identify the sender and facility, then direct you to the inmate’s Inmate Sales account to add money using a credit card. This free allowance applies to the automated introductory messages, not ordinary conversations.

To support an ongoing conversation, register with Inmate Sales and add messaging funds for the inmate. Those funds can also be used by the inmate to send messages back to you. The automated introductory text provides a direct link to the inmate’s account.

1. Create an account with Inmate Sales.
2. Select Indiana, then Dearborn County Jail, then the inmate you want to message.
3. Choose the amount you want to spend and enter your payment method. For funding through the introductory text’s account link, use a credit card.

If you want to pay by phone, call 877-998-5678.

An undated independent listing gives these charges; confirm current rates before paying. The inmate is charged a $4 monthly service fee. Each inbound Chirp costs $0.10, and each outbound Chirp costs $0.10. These charges are separate from the free automated introductory-message allowance.

Messages between you and the inmate are permanently recorded and seen by staff. They may be used against the inmate in court.
