How to Get Approved to Visit Someone at Dodge State Prison
To get approved to visit someone at Dodge State Prison, you’ll need to complete a Visitation Request Form and submit the finished form to the facility where your loved one is currently incarcerated. Fill it out carefully and completely before you send it in - this form is the starting point for getting on the approved visitor list.
Not immediate family? The process works differently. If you're visiting based on a close personal connection, the offender has to start things on their end. They'll need to complete a
Georgia DOC defines
Everyone else - step-parents, in-laws, cousins, friends, employers, pastors - falls into the "significant relationship" category. For these visitors, the offender must initiate the process by submitting a "Significant Relationship Visitor Application for Visitation Privilege." The Warden/Superintendent reviews it and decides whether to approve or deny.
Mail your completed Visitation Request Form to the facility where the offender is housed. For Dodge State Prison, send it to P.O. Box 276, Chester, GA 31012. Before mailing, make a copy or snap a clear photo - you'll want a record of what you submitted if questions come up later.
After you're approved, you can request and manage visits through the Department's visitation request system. Plans change? You can add visitors to an existing appointment or cancel online.
General population visiting hours (Dodge State Prison): Saturdays, Sundays, and State Holidays from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
Segregation visiting hours (Dodge State Prison): Tuesdays and Thursdays (no holidays) from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
- Open the Department’s “Add Visitor” option - it’s used when you already have a scheduled visitation.
- Find your scheduled visitation - use the tool to locate the existing appointment.
- Add the additional visitors - submit the update through the same system so they’re attached to that scheduled visit.
- Open the Department’s online cancellation option - this is for visits that are already scheduled.
- Locate your scheduled visitation - select the correct appointment.
- Cancel the visit - complete the cancellation in the system so the facility has the update.
Getting approved isn't the final step - visitation can still be refused, denied, or revoked. If the Georgia Department of Corrections suspects you're trying to bring contraband into the facility, or if you're caught with it on the premises, you'll lose your privileges. The facility can also suspend visits during special security situations, even if you've followed every rule.
Be honest on everything you submit. Visitation privileges can be denied or revoked if you're found to be deceptive on the significant-relationship form, or if you've been warned about a specific behavior and keep doing it.
Note: You must be on an offender’s approved visitor list to use any Georgia DOC payment method to send money to that offender.
