How to Request Public Records from Doña Ana County Detention Center (IPRA)

IPRA gives you the right to inspect public records held by Doña Ana County. To get the protections and timelines IPRA provides, put your request in writing and follow the county's requirements.

Required Elements

  • Make it a written request (that’s what triggers the IPRA procedures)
  • Include your name
  • Include your address
  • Include your telephone number
  • Describe the records you want in enough detail that the records custodian can identify and locate them

Doña Ana County accepts IPRA requests online through its IPRA portal (RecordBook) on the county website. This is often the easiest way to submit - your request goes straight to the records custodian.

Prefer paper? Mail or hand-deliver your request to: Doña Ana County IPRA Custodian, 845 N. Motel Blvd., Box #17, Las Cruces, NM 88007.

Once the records custodian receives your written request, the county must let you inspect the records immediately or as soon as practicable - but no later than 15 calendar days from receipt.

Note: If inspection isn’t permitted within three business days, you should receive a written response explaining when the records will be available for inspection or when the public body will respond to your request.

Standard copies cost $1.00 per single-sided page for pages up to 11 x 17 inches.

  1. Record your submission date - the IPRA timeline runs from when the records custodian receives your written request.
