Durham County's Pod-Based Visiting Schedule: When Your Loved One Can Receive Visitors
At Durham County Detention, in-person visiting times depend on your loved one’s housing pod. If they’re in Pod A or Pod B, the in-person visitation window is Tuesday from 4:00 PM to 7:30 PM.
If your loved one is in Pod C or Pod D, the standard in-person visitation window is Thursday from 4:00 PM to 7:30 PM. Before you lock in plans, double-check the pod assignment - there’s one specific exception to the Thursday schedule (covered below).
Cancellation policy: Cancel at least one day in advance. If you don’t, the visit will still count as one of your visits.
Pods 3C North and 3C South are an exception to the Thursday (4:00 PM to 7:30 PM) schedule for Pods C and D. If your loved one is housed in 3C North or 3C South, don’t assume Thursday is their visiting day - confirm their pod details before you make the trip.
The in-person visitation schedule can change without notice, so it’s smart to confirm plans close to the day of your visit. Also, in-person visitation is not available on Durham County holidays.
Before you travel, verify your loved one’s current pod assignment with Detention Services. That one detail determines whether you should be planning for Tuesday (Pods A & B) or Thursday (Pods C & D, with the 3C North/South exception). The Detention Services main phone number listed by Durham County is 560-0958.
Quick reminder: The in-person visitation schedule is subject to change without notice. If you’re unsure about the pod or timing, calling Detention Services is the safest way to avoid a wasted trip.
