Durham County Detention's Two-Address Mail System: Where to Send What

Starting February 1, 2023, Durham County Detention Center stopped processing personal mail on-site. Personal mail now goes through an offsite mailscan system, which means the address you use matters more than it used to.

Send all personal mail (letters, cards, and pictures) to the Phoenix, Maryland P.O. Box below. Include the recipient's name and ID number so the mail gets routed correctly. Durham County Detention Center, NC Recipient Name and ID Number P.O. Box 247 Phoenix, MD 21131

Legal mail, books, and packages don't go to the Phoenix, MD mailscan address. Send those to the Durham P.O. Box instead: P.O. Box 771 Durham, NC 27702

• ✓ Include the inmate’s first name, middle name, and last name.
• ✓ If the full name (first, middle, last) is missing, legal mail, books, or packages can be delayed or returned.

If you need to send funds, do not put any form of payment in the mail. Use the facility’s approved methods for adding money instead, and follow the current detention center rules for deposits.
